Spacetime Suite is a series of vignettes exploring the connections between astrophysical phenomena and human relationships. This evening-length dance concert is the result of Sopoci Drake's embodied research on the link between Laban's theories on flow, it's connection to higher dimensions, and its practical ability to connect us to both ourselves and the world around us.
Sopoci Drake uses astrophysical phenomena as inspiration for this human experiment in movement. Black holes become the backdrop for human decision-making, the orbits of celestial bodies mirror intimate relationships, and the collision of galaxies give us a reflection of the movements of humans across cities and countries. Set choreography and improvisational scores are used to study the effects of flow on both the mover and the observer. Watch art and physics collide in this critically acclaimed work described as "well thought out and rich with substance" (DC Dance Journalism Project) and "seductive, lovely, inhuman" (ExpressMilwaukee.com) with Sopoci Drake's signature "decisive and controlled vocabulary" (MilwaukeeMag.com).

More about the showSpacetime Suite was premiered in its entirety at Dance Loft on 14th in Washington D.C. on September 29-30, 2016 with the generous support, in part by a presentation grant from Dance Metro DC, the regional service organization for dance in the national capital region.

Invitation to Laban Movement Analysts LMA's, Scientists, and Citizen Scientists
The creation of Spacetime Suites is an experiment in the relationship between human interactions and astrophysics. Concepts from each realm are explored through movement generated by the dancers who are given specific directions based on Laban Space scales and/or Effort elements (see more on the Laban page). The movement generated through these directions is designed to open opportunity for particular emotional or psychological states to arise. The aim of the project is to use embodied research to understand the relationship between human movement and astrophysics in a visceral way. The goal of the performance is to gather additional observational data and share the ongoing research.
If you are a Laban Movement Analyst or a scientist (or a citizen scientist), I invite you to analyze Spacetime Suite and share your findings with us. All findings submitted (with permission) will be shared on katiesopocidrake.com and will be used for future research.
